Ruthenium trichloride was found to be an efficient catalyst for the first time for the synthesis of a variety
of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones by cyclocondensation of an aldehyde, β-dicarbonyl compound and
urea in excellent yields under mild reaction conditions.
