Analytical studies were carried out on the compression unsupported plate surface of the
monopole at critical locations near flange plate connection at foundation level. The experimental and analytical axial stress distribution around the circumference of tubular pole are plotted to verify its behaviour. Actual strains obtained from number of full-scale mono-pole testing were correlated to substantiate the behaviour of unsupported plane surface of polygonal monopole and flange plate stiffeners. Proportioning and locating of stiffeners were suggested as a guidelines for designing the base plate flange connections.
