Description In the present study, two aspects of reinforced concrete structure under seismic loading are discussed, i.e. suitable retrofit of damaged structure for further utilisation and, simplification of ductile provisions of the recent codes by using advanced material. A specimen designed based on Indian Standard specifications with proper consideration of seismic load but without any ductile provisions was tested. Then, the damaged ‘NonDuctile’ specimen is repaired and adequately retrofitted using FRP and steel plate. The test shows that the retrofitted specimen is not only capable of regaining its strength and stiffness but a judicious retrofitting can further improve the eficiencies observed in the performance of the undamaged specimen.
