Description The aim of this paper is to present implementation of Fault Tree Technique (FTT) in civil engineering field. An objective evaluation of the causes surrounding the common failures in a structure under seismic loads and the various events that lead to its failures have been illustrated. The fault tree is constructed using the AND and the OR fates. The various cut sets are traced by using the qualitative analysis technique. The probability occurrence of each even is determined. Proper knowledge of failure modes in structures and their probability of occurrences in case of any distress are more important to trace the critical path.
