Description Upgradation to higher seismic zones of several cities and towns in India has necessitated in evolving new retrofitting strategies. Generally two methods of the retrofit strategies like local and global retrofit strategies are adopted. The local retrofit strategies are applied to individual elements of a building. The global retrofit strategies adopted for the building as a whole may be safe against a lateral load. In the present study, local retrofitting strategy to retrofit RC structural elements like beams and columns with Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) wraps were studied. Two types of wraps namely carbon fibre and glass fibre wraps were used. The studies were conducted on the RC beams to assess the performance of the wrapping in flexural, shear and axial compression loading. The results of the investigations are presented in this paper.
