Description CSIR-NAL is working towards indigenous development of advance avionics technologies namely Enhanced Vision System (EVS), Synthetic Vision System (SVS), combination of the two known as Enhance Synthetic Vision System (ESVS) to improve the situational awareness of pilot during degraded visual environment (DVE). Now CSIR-NAL team is carrying out research and development work for integrating ESVS on head-up-display (HUD). This report provide the work carried out towards symbology development for HUD system for ESVS application. HUD symbology similar to one implemented on Boeing 737-832 is developed for different modes of operation such as take-off, VMC and IMC based approach, en route navigation etc. The symbology developed is driven in real-time by all the necessary avionics data provided through network interface from ‘FlightGear’ (open source) simulator. The approach/landing performance without and with HUD is carried out to bring out the advantage of HUD over HDD such as PFD and ND for most critical phase of flight that is approach and landing.
