Description A fractured ‘Support clamp RH’ installed on an aircraft was sent to the laboratory for analysis. Examination showed that the clamp failed by fatigue. Two fatigue cracks were found to have originated at the radius regions of the neck adjacent to the hole. The fatigue appears to be of high cycle – low stress type. The most probable reason for fatigue crack initiation appears to be the assembly stresses resulting from either improper bolt size or improper fixing of the bolt.
