Description An experimental study has been taken up in the 1.5m wind tunnel at NAL on thin wing MAV models to understand such low Reynolds number flows and to characterize combinations of low aspect ratio planforms and camberline distributions. Force measurements and flow visualization were made at freestream velocities of 8, 10 and 12 m/s at incidence angles from -10 to 38 degrees. The results showed that the wing stalls at angles as high as 30 degrees. The modified Zimmermann planform with Selig 4083 camber (C1MZ) has a comparatively superior performance. The existence of the laminar separation bubble was observed during the experiments and it was seen how the bubble and strong tip vortices control the whole flow and the aerodynamic characteristics of the wing.
