Description This dissertation comprises mainly of two chapters. Chapter 1 (Part A) describes a synthetic approach to cyclopentane ring containing carbanucleosides from easily accessible D-glucose derived substrates via intramolecular nitrone cycloaddition (INC) reaction and Chapter 1 (Part B) deals with various cyclopentane/cyclopentene carbocycles by means of intermolecular/ intramolecular Henry reaction starting again from D-glucose based precursors. Chapter II demonstrates how, by applying ring closing metathesis (RCM) and INC reactions, could lead to various locked bicycles and their eventual transformation to conformationally locked bicyclic nucleosides including synthesis of enantiomeric nucleoside derivatives.
