Description |
From the evidences and fractographic features, the most probable reason for the failure of the aileron appears to be due to Foreign Object Damage (FOD). Following FOD, a portion of the aileron was torn away due to aerodynamic forces. There were no evidences of delayed failure like fatigue and/or stress corrosion cracking. No metallurgical abnormalities were responsible for the failure.
