Description Use of ash as underground mine fill will not only eliminate a great pollution hazard associated with surface disposal and storage in ash ponds but also solve our mining problem y providing a suitable substitute for everyday dwindling reserve of river sand which is the conventional stowing material. Moreover, coal production from opencast mines results in creation of huge surface cavities. Use of ash in backfilling these voids can be a major area for disposal of coal ash from nearby thermal power stations. This paper describes the study carried out so far and explored the newer possibilities to maximize the ash utilization potential in mine filling.
