Description Air pollution continues to increase by mining industries with the consequences affecting growing numbers of people and ultimately the global environment. The effects of pollution manifest themselves in deteriorating air quality around the mining areas, resulting in increased cases of respiratory illness and rain and the increasing global threat of climate change. Four methods of valuating the cost by pollution imposes on society are presented here. ‘Marked valuation’ demonstrates to what extent pollution has caused a decrease in the market value of the resource, or another item with the marker value that is impacted by environmental pollution. ‘Damage Cost Avoided’ estimate the values ecosystem services based on either the cost of avoiding damages due to lost services, the cost of replacing ecosystem services, or the cost of providing substitute services. ‘Dose-response’ provides a type of impact assessment by estimating the cost of the impact of environmental pollution on ecosystems and human health. ‘Contingent valuation’ estimates society’s willingness – to-pay for the reduction of environmental pollution. This paper discussed the approach that could be used to help identify, design, and evaluating cost of environmental pollution on society.
