Description |
The order conditions for Runge-Kutta Nystrom method may have multiple
solutions because of their non-linearity. One way of exciting these solutions is to vary the
choice of the free parameters. We demonstrate this for a diagonally implicit Runge-Kutta
Nystrom method which has only one free parameter and thus serves as a good test
problem. It is shown that it is possible to obtain different third order accurate methods
with two stages for different choices of the free parameter for a diagonally implicit
method. We exploit the freedom in the selection of the parameter to obtain the method
which yields the minimum value for the principal truncation error coefficients.
