Description |
The author describes briefly the application of a new technique of electron microscopy to the problems of the mining industry. The electron microscopy has been successfully used to study the problems relating to textile biology, chemistry, physics and metallurgy and enables visual analysis and examinations of micronic and sub-micronic matter and structure which have not been so examined hitherto. The paper discuses application of electron microscopy to study the shape and size and size distribution of micronic and sub-micronic particulate matter in mine atmosphere, which causes dust disease collectively known as pneumocomiosis amongst miners, the constituent of airborne dust particles in mines atmosphere by electron diffraction technique, the topography of the microstructure of coal by replica and slicing technique and the pores in ultra structure of coal which gives information about the phenomenon of gas emission and absorption.
