Description In recent years a number of coatings have been proposed as selective surfaces for solar collectors. In this paper the authors summarise and critically review selective coatings for flat plate collectors. Black chrome seems to be the most favourable coating because of its high spectral selectivity and high durability. Black chrome and black nickel plating electrolytes for depositing selective coatings are considered. Production of black zinc, black coatings on aluminium, copper and stainless steel by the chemical and electrochemical methods are also briefly discussed. The authors have also reported the use of solar foils for in-situ fabrication of flat plate collectors
