Description This paper describes the numerical studies carried out to investigate the effect of rotor tip clearance on the performance of a 2:1 pressure ratio fan stage. The first part of the work includes evaluation of the commercial CFD tool ANSYS FLUENT with the fan stage at design speed having no rotor tip clearance. The flow structure of the baseline configuration was studied with the help of Mach number contour and velocity vector plots.
