Description A technique for washcoating, alumina on cordierite monoUth was developed using an aqueous solution / slurry of aluminium salt by critically controlling the preparative parameters and activation procedures. Modifications of alumina washcoat with rare earth additives to increase the thermal stability / resistance to surfac~ area loss on severe heat treatments were also undertaken. Pt and Rh metals incorporated on modified washcoated monolith exhibit excellent HC, CO and NOx conversion efficiency Key words. Cordierite monolith, alumina washcoat, three way catalyst, Auto exhaust emission.
