Description Industry began to show interest in the development of vegetable oil’s derivatives as lubricants. To increase the thermo-oxidative stability of vegetable oils it is a general practice to convert vegetable triglyceride into mono-ester i.e. ethyl hexyl oleates. But these mono-esters have low kinematic viscosity in the range of 2 to 6 cst at 100°C. For the development of biodegradable base stock for grease, gear oil and 2T oil, the kinematic viscosity should be more than 10 cst at 100°C. Several methods for chemical transformation were adopted to achieve the required viscosity. It was found that proper alkarylation of mono ester is yielding the mono-ester having kinematic viscosity in the range of 11 to 16 cst at 100°C. This alkarylated mono-ester is found quite suitable as biodegradable base stock for grease, gear oil and 2T oil without sacrificing other benefits of vegetable oils.
