Description Carbohydrates are abundantly available, as renewable-resource, non-toxic, consistent structure & characteristics, biocompatible and biodegradable raw materials. Sugar ester of fatty acid is utilized here for a new composition of biodegradable soluble cutting oil. The prepared three formulations consists of, sugar fatty acid esters, co-surfactant, antioxidant, anticorrosion, fungicide, antifoaming and load carrying additives. These formulations were evaluated for emulsion and thermal stability, copper-strip corrosion, iron chip corrosion, and lubricity. The emulsions were stable over a wide range of temperatures. Performance of the formulations from all three types of sugar-esters is found at par with the specifications. Mixed based formulation showed better characteristics than Sugar oleate and sorbitan oleate based formulations. Key Words: Sugar esters, metalworking fluids, soluble cutting oil, biodegradable, eco-friendly.
