Description Carbohydrate esters are biodegradable compounds from renewable source. The hydrophobic ester of dextrose and karanja (Pongamia glabra) oil fatty acid has been synthesized in 55 % theoretical yields. Analysis of its physical and chemical properties showed that the ester is hydrophobic, oil soluble, thermo-oxidative stable and has a potential as lube oil base stock. KEY WORD : Sugar ester, Dextrose ester, Biodegradable lubricants, Karanja oil.
