Ecologicalbalance is of great concern. Use of mineral oil
leads to increase in pollution of the environment for
many years due to high toxicity. It has inconsistent
characteristicswith change in crude oil composition. So
attention was given to alkyl benzene that is a good
candidate for group IV base stock also. The heavy alkyl
benzene is a waste product obtained during the
manufactureof linear alkyl benzene (LAB) in detergent
industry and its toxicity is negligible in comparison to
petroleum. A composition of industrial/automotive,gear
oil is developed from this waste product and is at par
with BIS specs. It is less toxic and offers value addition
to petrochemicalwaste product.
