Description A laboratory device was developed to monitor and control corrosion in overhead distillation units. This device can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of corrosion inhibitors that are 'used to control overhead corrosion in the refinery distillation units. Present studies show that the water soluble compounds have better corrosion inhibition properties compared to hydrocarbon soluble ones as indicated by instantaneous corrosion rate data and the analytical data on the dissolved iron. Studies with the developed device indicated that the distillate cut from Dubai crude is more corrosive as compared to IBP-150°C distillate cut from Bombay High (BH) crude.
