Description |
The catalytic activity of activated carbon-based catalysts containing up to 25% of
zinc acetate was investigated by studying the reaction of acetic acid and acetylene to
give vinyl acetate. The physicochemical properties of the catalysts are given. A differential
reactor operating at atmospheric pressure between 155 and 200°C was used to
obtain the reaction rate for different partial pressure combinations of the reaction
components. Hougen and Watson types of rate equations derived from the Langmuir-
Hinshelwood mechanism were examined by using non-linear estimation. A statistically
best rate expression was determined from the experimental data.
