Description The possible ill effects of using high speed diesel oil (HSDO) in domestic kerosene stoves have been investigated. With wick stove, the use of HSDO results in wastage of fuel, fall in the rate of output of heat, higher consumption of wicks and blackening of vessels. There is negligible adverse effect of using kerosene containing up to 30% HSDO on the performance of a pressure stove (oil pressure 1-2 kg/cm 2) as regards soot formation. Though the thermal efficiency of HSDO is comparable to that of kerosene, stoves in which HSDO or HSDO-keroseneblends are burnt need frequent cleaning and their performance suffers with repeated use.
