Description Sulphur content in the diesel fuel being marketed in the country has been restricted to 0.25 wt % max. with a provision to meet 0.05 wt% max. by the turn of the century. This is against the international specification limiting the sulphur levels in the middle distillates to less than 0.05 wt%. In order to develop suitable catalysts and technologiss for hydrodesu!phurization of middle distillates tG achieve the above targets. it is essential to understand the nature and quantum of sulphur compounds present in the feed/tre<'lted feed. A Gas Chromatogr3phic method has been optimized for trace level estimation of individuai sulphur compounds in the middle distillate and hydrotreated fractions using sulphur selective detector.
