Description Field study on response measurements of a RCC shell water tank has been carried out under ambient wind conditions. It has a circular solid foundation, having a depth of 1.3 m. The full storage capacity of 70,000 liters of water is provided at its top 1/3rd portion. The water tank has been instrumented in three phases and the response signals have been acquired under natural wind conditions, characteristics of the dynamic response has been experimentally studied. Acceleration and surface strain response statistics are reported. Natural frequencies of the structure have been obtained by FEM modal analysis using ANSYS and compared with measured values. Frequencies other than first natural frequency of the water tank that were observed from strain measurements have also been analytically verified by introducing foundation flexibility at the base of the tank i.e., including the effect of soil-structure interaction (SSI).
