Description |
Civil engineering structures are generally the most expensive investments/assets in any country and these structures are deteriorating at an alarming rate. There is growing interest in developing appropriate sensors and techniques for structural health monitoring and damage assessment in the field of civil engineering that would be highly reliable and effective. Even though many sensors and measurement techniques are available, fiber optic sensing technique has been identified as the most appropriate for health monitoring of civil engineering structures. This report presents an overview on the reported applications of Fiber Bragg Grating sensors for structural health monitoring of civil engineering structures and important issues to be sorted out.
