Description |
This paper deals with derivation of improved stiffness coefficients for brick masonry piers
that include the influences of both rotation and lateral deflection of adjacent piers in vertical direction,
modelled as an ‘equivalent rotational spring’ which are introduced at the common points. A study
using an illustrative example involving estimation of in-plane lateral stiffness of a typical brick
masonry wall, demonstrated that the estimated stiffness using the improved stiffness coefficients for
masonry piers is comparable with the results obtained by finite element analysis.
