In the present investigation <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">m</i>-phenoxybenzaldehyde on condensation with various aromatic acetophenone in methanol and 40% aqueous solution of KOH has yielded the corresponding chalcones <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">4a-h</b><span style="mso-bidi-font-weight:bold">. These chalcones have been further reacted with guanidine hydrochloride, thiourea and urea in the presence of alcoholic KOH, which has led to the formation of pyrimidine derivatives <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal">5a-h</b> to <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal">7a-h</b>. The newly synthesized heterocycles have been characterized on the basis of their chemical properties and spectroscopic data. All novel synthesized derivatives have been screened for their antimycobacterial activities against <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Mycobacterium tuberculosis</i> H<sub>37</sub>Rv. </span>
