Description This paper reports the study on leaching behavior of pond ash collected from three thermal power stations of eastern India. The study of leaching behavior of three samples from three different thermal power stations were carried out using open column percolation experiment in order to understand the mobility of various trace/toxic elements under environmental conditions that one would actually expect in the real life situation. The study has shown that the pond ash of these thermal power stations does not contain trace/toxic elements in such alarming limit that should be feared and that these materials can be used as a mine backfill material in an environmentally benign manner.
