The knowledge of applied statistics is an important tool for anyone who is directly or indirectly involved with the handling of large amount of data. In the modern times, society need professionals who are capable of identifying, of identifying, analyzing and answering scientific questions related to environmental situations. The scientific approach to any environmental issue requires the correct application of statistical methodology to en-sure well-conducted data collection, analysis and interpretation.
Today applied statistics has taken front seat in every sphere of data analysis and management decision. Raw data, as such carries no meaning unless it is presented in a way such that some inferences can be drawn from it and which can be used for the propose for which such data was generated. The present paper gives a short review on the strength of statistics in analysis of environmental data and also shows with one case study haw management is assisted in taking decision on various critical issues based on such analysis. The knowledge of applied statistical techniques is very useful for professionals engaged in environmental problems and management.
