Description Nondestructive testing is an important means for assessment of performance of winder ropes. The visual method produces a possibility for inadequate inspection due to its subjectivity. Wire ropes wear out eventually, gradually losing work capability throughout its useful life making periodic inspections, lubrication and tensioning necessary. Magnetic flaw detectors are used to determine rope wearing. They measure loss of metallic area and detect the local faults like broken wires and other faults of the ropes. An attempt has been made in this paper to evaluate the performance of one cage winder rope in a mechanized coal mine in India using nondestructive testing instrument.
