Description The paper describes the essential features of the liquid metal centrifuge developed at the National Metallurgical Laboratory, for studying the structure of liquid metallic alloys. Regarding liquid metals structurally as a suspension of clusters of either like or unlike atoms in truly liquid atoms, the technique, which is based on obtaining a sedimentation equilibrium of cluster, enabled the Al-Cu alloys. The cluster size so determined can be correlated with viscosity of the liquid solutions and enabled the calculation of the heat of formation of the cluster.
