Description In this present work dry sliding metal-metal wear behavior of stainless steel AISI 410 and Ti-Al-N coated specimens at room temperature was investigated by using a ball cratering wear testing machine over a load range of 2N-5N for a total sliding distance of 350 m at a constant sliding speed of 0.3927 ms-1. The results show that the wear of test specimens increases with increasing load and sliding distance. Also the total abrasive wear decreases with the improved hardness of the coated specimen. The wear rates and worn surfaces were investigated with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) (with EDAX attachment) and Talysurf profilometry. The more grooving region, pits, ploughing ridge and cavities with Ti-Al-N composite particles were found on the worn surface of the stainless steel AISI 410. This result shows off hard Ti-Al-N coated particles exposed on the worn surface.
