Description This paper deals with the geotechnical investigation conducted for the design of ultimate pits slopes of an opencast Wollastonite mine situated in the state of Rajasthan (india). The current and ultimate depths of this mine are up to 120 m and 165 m respectively. The Pegmatite, skarn and Wollastonite rock masses at this mine are classified as fair to good based on the Bieniawski’s Rock Mass Rating, which varies mainly in the ranges of 50-60, 58-75 and 45 – 63 respectively, Kinematic analysis indicates potential of wedge and plane types of slope failures on bench scale. Overall slope angles for different ultimate slope heights are suggested in the range of 52°- 64° with a minimum bench width in the range of 3.5 – 5.0 m.
