Description Highwall Mining is operational at Sharda Highwall Mining project of Sohagpur area where thin coal seams are targeted for extraction using a trench Mining method. The extraction is performed form a series of parallel entries driven in the coal seam from the face of highwall created by cutting a trench in virgin ground. A descending sequence of extraction is followed by approaching the seams through trenching the ground up to the targeted coal seam. Trench slope stability is vital through each stage of trenching and successive coal seam extraction. The stability o the trench depends on the design of the trench geometry which should undeniably consider the effects of progressive trenching following coal seam extraction through Highwall Mining. Pre-assessment of stability of the proposed trench design is essential considering both the effects of trenching and highwall Mining extractions. A new slope stability assessment method using numerical modeling has been adopted and followed and followed in this study in order to evaluate the overall trench slope stability for each stage of Highwall Mining extraction. Slope stability has been analyzed for sequential multiple seam trenching and Highwall mining extractions and the assessed stability has been validated for each mining sequence.
