Description Measurement of airflow rate and leakage through surface air-lock is a cumbersome procedure using anemometers. In the present work SF6 (sulphur hexafluoride) has been used as tracer gas for measuring the airflow rate and leakage through surface air-locks. For measuring airflow rate, several experiments have been conducted in laboratory as well as in Chinakuri colliery for development and standardization of SF6 tracer gas method of ventilation analysis and has been verified by air quantity measurement in an underground gallery. Leakage of air through surface air-locks is determined using SF6 tracer gas technique in sodepur colliery.
