In this study,<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal"> </i>grains of two buckwheat species: <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">Fagopyrum esculentum</i> (IC37309) and <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">Fagopyrum tataricum</i> (var. <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">himpriya</i>) were phytochemically investigated for their nutritional, and antioxidant potential for their use as functional foods. Methanolic extracts of grains of two <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Fagopyrum</i> species showed higher phenolic content and antioxidant activity. Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) analysis presented these grains as a good source of minerals. This work demonstrated that grains of <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">Fagopyrum</i> species<i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal"> </i>under study possess high protein, carbohydrate, phenolic content and antioxidative potential thus can be a good source of nutrition. |
