Description The present paper herein discusses about the prospect of CBM as a clean energy source. It also presents the problems involved during the production of CBM and a watershed-based innovative solution to overcome the issues has also been discussed well. The proposed solution advises that the huge quantity of water pumped out from the underground might be stored in storage tanks, constructed within the rechargeable zones, delineated using fuzzy analysis. The fuzzy model considers all the influencing geo morphological parameters that favour the permeability of the strata such as the lineament property, slope density, surface runoff, drainage pattern, soil texture, vegetation, rock types of the study domain and subsurface thickness etc in order to identify the rechargeable area. The stored water would help not only to restore the emptied aquifer but also to support the farmers by helping agricultural activities and other domestic uses. The proposed technique for restoring the emptied aquifers might also control the land subsidence, which would be caused due to pumping of water continuously from the underground during CBM exploration.
