Photoeletrochemical(PEC) properties of ternary oxide SbZn<sub>2</sub>CuO<sub>6 + x</sub>, where δ = 0.5, are reported. The chemical composition of the oxide, which has been prepared by the standard ceramic method, has been determined by estimating its metal content. The material has been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), electrical conductivity and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Ternary oxide, SbZn<sub>2</sub>Cu<sub>2</sub>O<sub>6.5</sub> is found to be a good choice of photo-anode in PEC cell because of its 1.48 eV band gap. The conversion efficiency and fill factor are found to be 0.10 <em> % </em> and 0.351 respectively.
