The title investigation is reported under conditions either favourable to energy transfer from <sup>3</sup>BP (benzophenone) to pentacyanonitrosylferrate(II), (NP), which gives [Fe(CN)<sub>5</sub>CH<sub>3</sub>OH]<sup>2-</sup>, (LSP), or hydrogen abstraction by <sup>3</sup>BP from propane-2-ol which gives [Fe(CN)<sub>4</sub>NO]<sup>2-</sup>, (TNF). In the former system naphthalene (NA) quenches the reaction upto its concentration < 1.0 x 10<sup>-2</sup> mol dm<sup>-3</sup> beyond which φ<sub>LSP</sub> (0.12) is constant. In the latter system NA completely quenches the formation of TNF with a concomitant increase in φ<sub>LSP</sub>. The experimental data which is consistent with the proposed mechanism supports the quenching of <sup>3</sup>BP and subsequent energy transfer from the resulting <sup>3</sup>NA to NP.
