Description 381-385
The biomass constitutes the biggest source of energy in rural regions. However, its utilization in the domestic sector is most inefficient and polluting, resulting in resource wastage and indoor air pollution. Traditional cook stoves, predominantly used in the households for domestic cooking have been a major contributor to these ill effects. Looking at this scenario, we understand that there is strong need to bring change in the design and testing of the cook stoves. Accordingly, improvement in the design of cook stoves focused on the areas including primary and secondary air passage for complete combustion of biomass and quantity of biomass. Two designs of forced-draft type gasifier stoves are used, namely Purti and Mpurti and were assessed to know their efficiency by water boiling test (WBT) by changing things such as controlling the fan speed, blocked the air flow in primary and secondary inlet. To get comparative results water boiling test was performed, which involves measurement of parameters i.e. thermal efficiency, cooking power, energy delivered, and temperatures profile. Mpurti stove resulted in the improvement in thermal efficiency of the stove by 12-14% and overall increase in energy delivered by about 29-31% as compared to open fires.
