Description The present work deals with synthesis of magnetic hydroxyapatite by in situ synthesis of hydroxyapatite in the presence of both ferrous/ferric salt solution and ferrofluid. The synthesis is a matrix mediated one in which poly(vinyl)alcohol and gelatin have been used as matrices. The synthesis is done at ambient conditions and the process as it it mimics the way Nature does biomineralization is termed “biomimetics”. The magnetic properties of the nanocomposites thus obtained show saturation magnetization more than the initial ferrofluid itself…remarkable. Of the 18 samples synthesized, 4 were short listed based on the XRD data, of which two nano-composites were of ferrous/ferric salt solution and the other two were of ferrofluids. These nanocomposites were electrospun into nanofibers and mechanical studies done. The ultimate goal is to use these fibers as bandages for wound healing for both external and internal usage.
