Description A quick and rapid method has been developed for major and minor constituents in sulphide ore by gravimetry followed by Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (FAAS). Carbon (new method), insoluble constituents and silica have been determined gravimetrically, while major constituents like lead, zinc, copper, calcium, iron and minor constituents like silver, cadmium, manganese, cobalt, nickel and chromium have been determined by FAAS. The validity of the method has been confirmed by analyzing reference materials of sulphide ore prepared by Hindustan Zinc Limited (India) named as RDF (HZL) and comparing the results by evaluating the same elements by titrimetric methods, viz. (a) for zinc by EDTA with xylenol orange as indicator, (b) for lead by ammonium molybdate with tannic acid as indicator (c) for iron by potassium dichromate with barium di-phenyl amine as indicator (d) for copper using sodium thiosulphate with starch and potassium iodide as indicator. The standard deviation of the measurements has been calculated by analyzing ten replicates of each sample and was found to be <= 1.8% by the present method. The main crystalline phases of the ore samples were determined by X-ray diffraction to explore the nature of the ore.
