Description 1213-1221
Plants have been a prime source of medicine for thousands of years and are used as popular traditional folk medicine since times unknown. Kalanchoe pinnata has been shown to have medicinal properties. In the present study Kalanchoe pinnata leaves have been subjected to extraction by using Soxhlet apparatus while increasing the polarity using solvents such as petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, acetone and methanol. Phytochemical analysis shows the presence of phenolic compounds, flavonoids and glycosides. The methanolic extract of this plant has been analyzed using Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) which reveals the presence of 34 compounds. -allose, lanosta-8,24-dien-3-ol,acetate(3-beta), tricosane, squalene, phenol-2,4-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-, and octadecanoic acid are some of the compounds identified. These compounds are known to possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiarthiritic, nematicidal and hypocholesterolemic properties.
