Description Model proposed by Wagner et al. for distillation data considering gas phase resistance as the controlling resistance is modified in the present study wherein instead of gas phase resistance liquid phase resistance is considered as the controlling resistance for mass-transfer. This has been successfully applied to the experimental data collected during process development for recovery of bromine from brine employing air-blowing method. Experimental data collected are evaluated based on the modified model of Onda et al. and Wagner et al. Calculated values of mass transfer coefficients tally well with the observed values of mass transfer coefficient. Packed column performance is also compared with the results of Castillo et al. for removal of volatile organic compounds by steam stripping from water, wherein values of volumetric liquid phase mass transfer coefficient ranged from 0.001-0.008 (1/s) whereas in the present study it ranges from 0.0006-0.0164 (Ifs).
