Description |
An empirical relationship for fatigue crack growth rate and a procedure for relatively accurate correlation of constant-amplitude data are presented. The relationship uses the crack closure concept of Elber (1971) to account for the stress ratio effect and the theory of discrete fatigue crack propagation proposed by Ivanova (1975) to account for the changes in the slope of the crack growth rate curve. The relationship is limited to fatigue crack growth under constant amplitude loading and does not include the effect of material thickness or environmental effects.
