Description A detailed calibration study was carried out recently in the 0.55m low speed wind tunnel of the Experimental Aerodynamics Division. Although calibration of the test section was done after the original circular test section was modified, it was strongly felt that a detailed recalibration was necessary, especially considering the proposed studies involving low Reynolds number flow investigations for which flow quality in the tunnel must satisfy stringent requirements. This paper describes briefly the calibration process, modification of the tunnel components (including replacement of damaged screens) for the enhancement flow quality and the basic automation of tunnel data acquisition. Data obtained before the modifications showed non-uniformity of mean velocity profiles and high value of free stream turbulence intensities (>1%). Significant improvement in the flow quality both in terms of reduced turbulence intensity (<0.18%) and flow uniformity were obtained fter the modifications.
