Description |
Synthetic Vision System (SVS) plays an important role to assist pilot in take-off and landing during poor visibility condition. SVS is meant to provide a clear view of synthetic runway as close to real-world image as seen in clear weather condition. Generation of synthetic view to the pilot requires an accurate terrain elevation database, high resolution runway image, very accurate navigation data, attitude angles and altitude from ground. The system should also have real-time terrain elevation database integrity monitoring to check the reliability of synthetic image. In order to understand and resolve the various practical issues involved in the design of an SV system for an aircraft, extensive work is being carried out at NAL . In this paper, details of three aspects are presented (i) terrain data base integrity monitoring using downward looking sensors (ii) Interface of XR6 GPS receiver with flightgear software and (iii) coordinate transformations for matching the GPS data collected on an actual runway with the synthetic data base of the same runway on the Distributed Engineer-in-Loop Simulator or DELS.
