Description The analysis of the debris collected from the main oil filter of aeroengine was carried out and is presented in this report. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) results showed that the material of the large metallic particle collected from the filter was found to be an Al-Cu alloy of 2XXX series. The morphology of the particle indicated that it was a machined chip. The overall composition revealed that the particles in the debris contain predominantly lead (Pb), phosphorous (P) and oxygen (O) with small quantities of iron (Fe), aluminum (Al), magnesium (Mg), zinc (Zn) and silicon (Si). The metallic particles in the debris were predominantly rich in Al. However, a few metallic particles in the debris showed presence of small quantity of silver (Ag) in addition to Al, Cu, Pb, P and Mg. The weight of the larger chip and the debris were measured to be 0.4 and 100 mg respectively.
